THE VICEROY'S ROOM For over 400 years, with some brief interuption, Palermo was governed by spanish rulers or by a viceroy that acted on their behalf. From the aragons to the bourbons, Palermo endures but is also enriched by a strong influence. Spanish heritage includes: the extention of the Cassaro all the way to the sea and the construction of “Porta Felice”, Maqueda street, 4 Canti and the new Port. Furthermore they brought into Sicily various vegetables that became fundamental for many dishes of cuisine such as “caponata”
